Queen Elizabeth II Demise- Its Effect on London Fashion Week SS 23

By virtue of Queen Elizabeth II’s death which happened on the 8th of September 2022 at age 96, It was announced by the British Fashion Council (BFC) that the London Fashion Week which was earlier scheduled to take place from Friday, September 16th through Tuesday, September 20, 2022, will still hold with exception to Monday, 19th September, which is the day of Her Majesty funeral.

However, In the course of the fashion season event such as store openings and parties will be cancelled or placed on hold. (This is regarded as non-core event.

Nevertheless, Core events like the runway shows will still hold. Although some individual fashion brands like Burberry and Edeline lee have pulled out of the fashion week show totally to honour the queen and will reschedule for later dates after the national mourning period is over.

A recent release by BFC shows that there will be a memorial wall where participants can write tributes to the queen at the NewGen Venue at Selfridges Hotel as well as a moment of silence at the start of the showcase to show reverence to her Majesty. Also, Media outlets have been admonished not to post images and videos of presentations and shows till after the 10 days national mourning period is over which started on the 9th of September 2022.

The City Wide Celebration had been rescheduled to take place in October, alongside parties and events that have been postponed such as designer shows and presentations. An exact date for this activity is yet to be confirmed.
